Pool Filter Balls

Pool Filter Balls

Our Pool Filter Ball Range

Rongjian manufactures pool filter balls, the lightweight polyester-fibre balls that replace sand in swimming-pool and industrial sand filters. Spun from 100% virgin polyester fibre into a soft, springy ball, sometimes called pool filter cotton balls, they pack into the filter the same way sand does but weigh a tiny fraction as much and trap far more dirt. Water passes through the fibre and suspended solids are caught right through the depth of the ball.

The balls have a density of 0.94 to 0.98 g/cm³, a porosity of 92 to 98% and a dirt-holding capacity of about fifty times their own weight, so they filter finer than sand and run longer between cleans. They wash clean and are reused for three to five years, and an oleophobic grade repels oil and resists clumping for oil-water separation in industrial wastewater. We supply them for pools, municipal sewage and industrial filtration, factory-direct.

  • 100% polyester fibre balls that replace pool and industrial filter sand
  • A fraction of the weight of sand, with about fifty times the dirt-holding
  • Wash clean and reuse for three to five years
  • Oleophobic grade for oil-water separation in wastewater

Replaces Sand at a Fraction of the Weight

The fibre balls fill a filter the way sand does, but the same filter takes a kilogram of balls in place of twenty-five to thirty-five kilograms of sand. That makes them far easier to ship, carry and load, with no heavy bags of sand to lift, and it is why pools and plants switch to them when a filter is due for new media.

Higher Dirt-Holding and Finer Filtration

Each ball is mostly open fibre, so it traps suspended solids right through its depth and holds about fifty times its own weight in dirt. That gives finer, clearer filtration than sand and longer runs between cleans, because the bed stores far more before the flow drops and a backwash is due.

Washable and Reusable for Years

The balls do not break down like sand, so they are backwashed in place and, when needed, taken out and machine-washed, then put straight back. A charge lasts three to five years before it needs replacing, which cuts both the media cost and the labour of changing sand every season.

Oleophobic Grade for Oil-Water Separation

An oleophobic grade is treated to repel oil and resist clumping, so it separates oil from water and keeps working in oily, greasy effluent that would blind an ordinary filter. This is what lets the same fibre ball move from a swimming pool to industrial wastewater and oil-water separation duty.

Pool Filter Ball Applications

Pool filter balls go into any sand filter, from a backyard pool to an industrial wastewater plant, and replace the sand with a lighter, higher-capacity media. The four duties below cover most of what buyers order them for.

Liquid Surface Ball
Swimming Pools and Spas
In swimming pools and spas, the balls replace the sand in the filter and give clearer water with finer filtration, while cutting the filter weight and the backwash water. They drop straight into a sand or cartridge filter, which is why pool owners and pool builders switch to them when the media is due for renewal.

Liquid Surface Ball
Industrial Wastewater and Oil-Water Separation
In industrial wastewater, the oleophobic grade separates oil from water and removes suspended solids in deep-bed filters, holding up in oily, greasy effluent that blinds ordinary media. Oil-water separation and suspended-solids removal are the duties it is built for, in steel, petrochemical and machining plants.

Liquid Surface Ball
Municipal Sewage and Water Plants
In municipal sewage and water-treatment plants, the balls polish the effluent in deep-bed filters, cutting suspended solids and turbidity before discharge or reuse. Their high dirt-holding lets a filter run longer, and their light weight makes a media change far quicker than digging out sand.

Liquid Surface Ball
Aquaculture, Ponds and General Filtration
For aquaculture, ponds, fountains and general process filtration, the balls keep the water clear and are easy to lift out and wash, then put back. The same media covers a fish farm, a fountain and a factory water loop, which is why a buyer can standardise on it.

Pool Filter Balls Made in Jiangxi Since 2010

We have produced pool and industrial filter balls since 2010, out of Jiangxi in China, and ship them to pool suppliers, distributors and water-treatment plants around the world as a lighter, longer-lasting replacement for filter sand. Because we make both the standard and the oleophobic grade, the media is matched to the duty rather than forced to fit one product.

Standard and Oleophobic Grades

We hold the standard grades and offer OEM size, colour and packing, with the balls supplied in bags sized to the filter. Standard supply runs from sample quantities up to bulk orders by the tonne or the container, with the test report shipped against the order and a reply on quotes within a day.

Made of 100% Virgin Polyester Fibre

The balls are spun from 100% virgin polyester fibre, not recycled stock, which is what keeps them clean, consistent and long-lasting in the filter. Virgin fibre carries no contamination into the water and holds its loft, so the ball keeps its open structure and high dirt-holding instead of matting down over a season. The same fibre is what lets the balls be washed and reused for years.

Replaces Sand at a Fraction of the Weight

Because the balls are mostly fibre and air, the media for a given filter weighs a fraction of the sand it replaces, so a kilogram of balls stands in for tens of kilograms of sand. That cuts the freight on every order, takes the heavy sand bags out of a media change, and lets one light carton cover a filter that would otherwise need a pallet of sand. It is the weight, as much as the filtration, that makes pools and plants switch.

Shipped to Over 100 Countries

We ship pool and industrial filter balls to over a hundred countries. The balls are light and compress for transport, so they bag and ship cheaply and a filter's worth takes little space, and OEM packing and printing can carry a distributor's own brand. From a sample bag to a container, the order is packed and documented for export.

FAQs

What are pool filter balls and how do they work?

Pool filter balls are soft balls of polyester fibre that replace the sand in a pool filter. Water passes through the open fibre and suspended solids are caught right through the depth of each ball. Because they are mostly fibre and air, they weigh far less than sand, trap more dirt and filter finer, giving clearer water.

How much filter balls do I need to replace sand?

A given filter takes far less weight of balls than sand, roughly a kilogram of balls in place of twenty-five to thirty-five kilograms of sand. The exact amount depends on your filter, which is sized by the sand it normally holds. Tell us the filter model or the sand weight it takes and we will tell you how many balls to order.

Are filter balls better than sand?

For most pools, yes. They are lighter, hold more dirt, filter finer for clearer water, and wash and reuse for years instead of being dug out and replaced. Sand is cheaper to buy and still fine for basic duty, but on weight, water clarity and ease of handling the balls win. We help you weigh it up for your filter.

Can I put filter balls in my existing sand filter?

Yes. The balls are made to drop straight into a standard sand filter in place of the sand, with no change to the pump or the plumbing. You take out the old sand, put in the balls to the level the filter needs, and run it as before. It works in pool sand filters and in industrial deep-bed filters alike.

How are filter balls cleaned and how long do they last?

They are backwashed in place like sand, and when they need a deeper clean they are lifted out and machine-washed, then put back. They do not break down or pack hard, so a charge lasts three to five years before replacing, far longer than a season of sand, which cuts both cost and labour.

Do you have an industrial grade for wastewater and oil?

Yes. The oleophobic grade is treated to repel oil and resist clumping, so it separates oil from water and keeps filtering in oily, greasy industrial effluent. It is used in steel, petrochemical and machining wastewater for oil-water separation and suspended-solids removal. Tell us the effluent and we will recommend the grade.

What is your minimum order and lead time?

The minimum order depends on the grade and packing, and bulk orders ship by the tonne or the container while samples are smaller. Lead time runs from stock for standard balls to a couple of weeks for OEM colour, size or packing. Send the grade and the quantity and we will confirm both on the quote.

Choosing and Using Pool Filter Balls

Pool filter balls are light balls of polyester fibre that replace the sand in a pool or industrial filter. They sit in the filter where the sand would go, but because each ball is mostly open fibre they weigh a fraction as much, trap more dirt and filter finer. They are sometimes called pool filter cotton balls, after the soft, cotton-like fibre they are made from.

Filter balls against sand

The difference is weight, dirt-holding and reuse. The table below sets out what changes when balls replace sand in the same filter.

PROPERTYFILTER BALLSFILTER SAND
Weight in a filter~1 kg25–35 kg
Dirt-holding50× self weightLower
FiltrationFiner, clearer waterCoarser
ReuseWashable, 3–5 yearsReplaced periodically
HandlingLight, easy to loadHeavy bags

How much you need to replace sand

A filter is sized by the weight of sand it holds, and the balls go in by a much smaller weight, roughly a kilogram of balls for every twenty-five to thirty-five kilograms of sand. The simplest way to order is to read the sand weight off the filter or its manual; we then convert that to the weight of balls and the number of bags. The balls are filled to the level the filter needs, not packed tight.

Fitting them to your filter

Filter balls are made to drop into a standard sand filter with no change to the pump or the plumbing. The old sand is removed, the balls are loaded to the right level, and the filter runs as before. They suit pool sand filters, cartridge housings and industrial deep-bed filters, so the same product fits a backyard pool and a wastewater plant.

Cleaning, backwash and service life

In normal use the balls are backwashed in place, the flow reversed to lift and rinse them. When they need a deeper clean they are lifted out and machine-washed, then returned to the filter. Because polyester fibre does not break down or pack hard, a charge lasts three to five years, far longer than seasonal sand, which is where the saving in media and labour comes from.

Industrial and oleophobic grade

Beyond pools, an oleophobic grade is treated to repel oil and resist clumping. In industrial wastewater it separates oil from water and removes suspended solids in deep-bed filters, holding up in oily, greasy effluent that would blind sand or ordinary fibre. This is the grade used in steel, petrochemical, machining and food-processing wastewater, where oil-water separation matters.

Quality and supply

Consistent fibre and clean, virgin polyester are what keep the balls filtering evenly and lasting their full life. The balls are made from 100% virgin polyester to an industrial grade, and we offer OEM size, colour and packing. We supply from sample quantities up to bulk orders by the tonne or the container, sized to the filter they go into.
